A Walk Through Palermo

By Julia Gasper

Sicily is a good place to go to for winter sun or just a break at this

time of year. While sunshine cannot be guaranteed, it is on average a

lot warmer than England, and there is plenty to see in this island

which has always been a crossroads of cultures. Palm trees even in

Palermo in the North give it a Spanish feel, and the architecture of

the old city is an eclectic blend of Romanesque, Byzantine and Arab

influences. The island of Sicily has been occupied by Greek, Roman,

Saracen, Norman, Angevin, and Spanish conquerors and all have left

their mark. A stroll through Palermo will quickly show you some

amazing sights.
