THE BLACK HORSE TROTS INTO THAME

Trotting into the Cornmarket at the heart of historic Thame is The Black Horse from The White Brasserie Company. Housed beautifully in a local 16th century building that has been charmingly restored, period features can still be found at this comfortable and welcoming Oxfordshire pub. With delicious seasonal food, craft ales and fantastic wines, pull up a chair and discover your favourite new local.

A WARM WELCOME

Lovingly restored to enhance the building’s historic features, original wood panelling and oak beams are set beautifully alongside vintage furniture, whilst dark oak floors are offset by sage green walls, tartan fabrics and ‘Toile de Jouy’ wallpaper. With a snug and bar space, the pub is full of cosy nooks that are perfect for lazy days grazing and sipping. A bright and airy ‘Garden Room’ leads out onto a paved courtyard space – ideal for lunchtime pints, star-lit evenings and al fresco dinners. The original coach house has been given a new lease of life, transformed into an impressive dining room, decked with striking metal chandeliers strung between original beams, the perfect spot for weekend family lunches, parties and celebrations.

SEASONAL PUB CLASSICS MEET FRENCH FAVOURITES

Serving dishes influenced by British pub classics and French brasserie favourites, the all-day menu offers seasonal food freshly prepared with carefully-sourced quality ingredients. Diners can expect mains such as a deluxe sharing dish of coq au vin, corn-fed guinea fowl with a medley of root vegetables, lardons and rich wine sauce; handmade weekly pie specials, as well as a selection of Cornish free-range steaks. A fragrant Malabar fish curry comes topped with grilled king prawns and shallot crisps, whilst creative vegetarian dishes include black truffle and wild mushroom risotto, and earthy pumpkin and toasted pine nut ravioli.

A selection of British cheese is available to follow, as well as indulgent desserts from pillowy pistachio soufflé to three fruit marmalade crème brûlée and Normandy apple tart. The children’s Henri le Worm menu is guaranteed to tickle tiny taste buds, whilst older children can order half price half portions from the main menu.

TOP TIPPLES

As W.C. Fields said: “Everybody’s got to believe in something. I believe I’ll have another beer.” Emblazoned across the drinks menu, this quote sits alongside a selection of beers and ciders, with rotating draft ales, IPAs by the can and lagers by the bottle. An extensive wine list features British, French, European and New World wines such as dry Chapel Down from Kent, and aromatic Chablis from Burgundy. An assortment of both classic and more unusual cocktails are mixed and muddled, from Espresso Martinis and Palomas, to Ginger and Lemongrass Sours and Kentucky Apples. Gin lovers will be kept happy with an array of choices, from the dry London Sipsmith, to the savoury Spanish Gin Mare.

Perfect for laidback afternoons, friendly evening gatherings and intimate date night drinks, it’s time to saddle up and head down to The Black Horse.
