SENSYNE HEALTH WINS INNOVATION OF THE YEAR AWARD AT PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARDS

Sensyne Health is pleased to announce that its product GDm-Health has been recognised as the winner of the ‘Medtech, Device or Hardware Innovation of the Year Award’ at the prestigious 2020 HSJ Partnerships Award.

GDm-Health is a pioneering tool that enables the remote management of gestational diabetes, minimising the burden for mothers-to-be of attending additional medical appointments and thus reducing pressure on midwives and NHS services. The app allows patients to simply connect a blood glucose meter to their smartphone so they can monitor and securely submit real-time results via an app, outside their usual antenatal appointments, and then enables doctors to review them. As a result, clinicians get more time to focus on the woman’s care needs rather than collecting and recording data and have the ability to prioritise care to women most at need.

Developed in partnership with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and following a two-year clinical evaluation in the NHS by over 2,000 women, there are now over 950 weekly active users across 16 NHS Trusts and every month an average of over 500 users start using the app.

In the UK, the number of mothers-to-be with GDM is predicted over time to reach over 16%, up from 4% in 2008. The system has already been proven to have a significant positive impact on the health of women, with a trial finding it reduces the need for caesarean sections, lowers the likelihood of premature births, and has the potential for cost-savings to the NHS through improved patient outcomes.
